Waygrove (/waygrove/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Cosea Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.

The name Waygrove is derived from the Sylvin language, as Waygrove was founded by Cā̄ Ya̋ń̄ 'Skyla Martin' Haw̄ Cú̄̌ Joī Searle, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Waygrove has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 21°C (69°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 15°C (59°F). Waygrove receives an average of 250 cm/y (98 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Waygrove covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 1522 m (4993 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Waygrove was founded durring the late 13th century in fall of the year 1169, by Cā̄ Ya̋ń̄ 'Skyla Martin' Haw̄ Cú̄̌ Joī Searle. The establishment of Waygrove suffered from many setbacks, delays, and obsticles, most notably a group of Waygrove which required millitary assistance exterminate before the community could finish being built.

Waygrove was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 13th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Waygrove is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Waygrove is buildings are arranged arround a network of broad flagstone streets which form a diagonal shaped grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town lacks any defencive features, though certainly constructing even a simple fence or digging a ditch is at the forefront of the 's mind. At least, one would hope so.

A look around Waygrove makes you wonder how anything ever gets done. The locals have clear, obvious rivalries with one another, as seen through clenched teeth and fake smiles. What’s more, there is a serious lack of any organization and planning in Waygrove’s layout as well as the local’s behaviors. The town seems to be a den of chaos where tongues are forked and local customs do not exist.

Waygrove has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Waygrove has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Waygrove's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used makes use of a large oblong hall or building with double colonnades and a semicircular apse and symmetrical central-plan, resulting in buildings with a square central mass and four arms of equal length. Decorative features included domed rooves, arches, soaring spaces, and sumptuous decoration: marble columns and inlay, mosaics on the vaults, inlaid-stone pavements, and sometimes gold coffered ceilings.

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is long in Waygrove.

The Trailgaunt near Waygrove are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Waygrove's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves ritual combat to channel Truename Magic energies of tier 3 via recitation of scripture.

Economy

Points of Interest

Waygrove is home to some form of natural wonder. It could be a hot spring, or an especially enchanting glade, or a particular vista. Whatever it is, it's such a lovely attraction that Waygrove sees its fair share of tourists every year from all across Eyom. Consequently, its residents speak many languages at a functional level.

Waygrove's roads were poorly made when first laid. Rather than repairing them correctly, a series of new roads was laid atop the old, leading to the streets of modern Waygrove suffering from potholes, cracking, and even sinkholes. The locals often repair the road by putting down wooden decking.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Waygrove was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Waygrove. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Waygrove lost 144 people, 275 livestock, and 25 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 192, when members of Waygrove's militia enacted an operation to transport a specific resource to a particular strategic location unharmed. The operation was complicated by the enemy setting up an ambush. The conflict ended with pitched battle between both forces, which ended in a crushing defeat for Waygrove's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Waygrove's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
